BluePentagon Traffic Data Usage Policy

BluePentagon is a web site statistics tool. It is also an email receipt verification tool.

Traffic Data Recorded

When you visit a web site that uses BluePentagon, our system takes a note of...

  • the page that was requested
  • the date and time of the request
  • the referrer URL
  • your current IP address,
or that of the internet proxy you are using.

If you send us a cookie, we may record it.

Primary Uses

The data is used to show...

  • how popular a site is
  • which web pages are most popular within a site
  • which visitors requested the most pages
  • how the visitor came upon the site
  • the keywords for which our site appeared in search engine results pages
  • the pages viewed by the most active visitors
  • the traffic data of visitors that are of special interest to BluePentagon users

The above applies equally to groups of sites.

Other Uses

When used in conjuction with email, BluePentagon may confirm that a specific email message has been viewed. It may confirm the date/time of that viewing.

We may put the data to any use that standard web server usage log data could be put, and we may aggregate it with data from other sources.

Data Retention

We have no plans to delete the data.

Access to Data

The data for a particular site is available to the webmaster of the site concerned and to the BluePentagon system administrators.

In the case of email receipts, the data is available to the sender of the email, and the BluePentagon system administrators.

The groups mentioned above may choose to extend access to whomever they wish. The data could also be accessed by employees of the hosting company hosting BluePentagon.com and any ISP though which authorised users access the BluePentagon summaries.

Personally Identifiable Data

In rare cases, the data you provide may be remotely traceable back to you. This typically occurs when you are the sole user of an ISP account that puts your username in your computer's 'hostname', and you have a personal web site or public email address that identifying you with your ISP and that particular username.

In most other cases, it is not possible to tell that you are the visitor concerned. However, if you are accessing a site or email using BluePentagon, whilst at work, it may in some cases be possible to identify your employer or the educational establishment you attend.

Remedies

If you object to any of the above policies, you should install software to block remotely stored images on third-party hosts.
